SERVPRO Handled This Tough West Hartford Job

Many West Hartford-area residents remember the scene one year ago: an overwhelming flood of sewage that inundated a residential street and almost two dozen homes!
On October 3, 2018 the region’s water authority was replacing aging water and sewer lines in West Hartford, Connecticut, when a 60-foot-long section of newly-installed pipe liner collapsed after a rainstorm. The resulting blockage sent waste water surging into the street. The basements of more than 20 houses up and down the road were flooded by up to five feet of water, and four families were displaced from their homes.
Access to Resources
SERVPRO of West Hartford’s management team used all the resources at its disposal to clean up a water disaster that several of our competitors were called to but didn’t have the capacity to handle. Crews and equipment from three SERVPRO franchises owned by Ralph and Noemi DiCristofaro joined forces to tackle this extraordinary and rapidly-worsening disaster: SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield, SERVPRO of Manchester/Mansfield and SERVPRO of Glastonbury/Wethersfield.
Because we possess resources of equipment and manpower from multiple franchises, we can respond quickly to disasters of just about any size and type. We can swiftly marshal thousands of pieces of equipment, scores of vehicles and well over a hundred highly-trained professionals.
A Biohazard Challenge
When the SERVPRO team was called to the scene, they discovered a street filled with brown water and homes inundated with the foul-smelling biohazard. Our workers got to work pumping out basements, drying out structures and property and removing damaged items. A key to our successful effort on the West Hartford sewage disaster was our expertise in biohazard cleanup: our crews are trained in and adhere to all OSHA and state health regulations.
In the end, only SERVPRO was able to remediate a disaster this big. Although several other disaster remediation companies were called to the scene and began performing initial work, one by one they dropped out of the project.
When the emergency was finally over, it was SERVPRO that cleaned the majority of the affected houses. We dried and disinfected structures and property, but more importantly, we safely and promptly restored homes, property and lives.
